Eco-friendly Housing!!

Off recently people are more conscious about the environment. Builders are planning to go green with eco friendly homes and the recent data suggests that potential home-buyers will spend the extra money up front to enjoy years of lower energy bills. Also property owners and buyers are taking initiative in going for environmentally friendly homes and look for ways to improve their homes and make them as “green” as possible.
A green home is one that is ideally constructed with a smart design, and requires minimal maintenance. The overall harm to the environment is at a minimum and the residents remain healthy. In a country like India where the population is ever increasing, so are the demands. The demand for houses, shopping malls, hotels, commercial complexes etc. are on the rise. An emerging alternative is to go green in housing too."

Some of the important specifications that should be provided by developers in an eco-friendly house are stated below :-

  1. Using alternative building material that are more eco-friendly in the long term.
  2. Use of mud tiles flooring, water based internal and external paints, fly ash bricks, UPVC doors and windows.
  3. Low energy device like V3F Lifts, soft start motors for lower energy loads.
  4. Energy efficient CFL lighting systems reduce loads.
  5. Use of renewable energy sources such as solar and wind.
  6. Common lights powered by Solar Energy, roof thermal resistance chemicals, solar water heating systems.
  7. Intelligent plumbing and rain water harvesting which allows water re-use in community irrigation.
  8. Water and sewage treatment plant for effective water recycling .
  9. Preservation of local ecology by encouraging natural flora and fauna.
  10. The sun and wind patterns must be studied and used while designing to reduce the use of fans, lights and AC's.
  11. Biogas generation plant for recycling common waste.
  12. Reduce-Reuse-Recycle-Renew.
Eco-friendly ongoing Kolhapur projects with few of the above stated specifications!!!

  1. These are bigger than expected in terms of efforts and effects. It is good that there is a growing conscious effort to protect the environment from the real estate industry.
